Welcome To Egbema Girl Child Education Foundation (EGCEF)

Egbema Girl Child Education Foundation (EGCEF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education, empowerment and the overall wellbeing of Girls in Egbema and its neighbouring communities.

Her focus is on mobilizing communities, and creating awareness on the importance of girl-child education in Nigeria.

EGCEF believes that if girls in various communities are educated, they will have the potential to enter the formal economy, gain employment and lift their families out of poverty.

Our Programs

It is an annual event done to commemorate the day of the girl-child where speakers deliver papers on different themes bothering on girl child education and general well-being.

With participation from different schools, Parents Teachers Associations, community Leaders and government in attendance.

To keep the girl-child in good health and behaviour we organize periodic In-school and out-school seminars in the following areas:

• Teenage Pregnancy
• Health
• Academic success
• Violence
• Abuse and Exploitation
• Negative Peer Influence
• Self Esteem

In a constantly evolving environment, having sustainable skill(s) is an essential part of being able to meet the challenges of everyday life.

We put together skill based workshops to train and enlighten girls in different areas to enable the girl child cope with the increasing pace and change of the constantly changing world.

When adolescent girls start menstruating in rural areas, they often have to miss about a week of school every month due to their lack of sanitary pads.

Hence we mobilize and donate sanitary pads to girls and also educate them on the need to maintain good hygiene during and after their menstruation.

Many children around our communities do not have access to clean water and decent toilets at school, thus exposing them to communicable diseases and infections, thus, putting girls' who are more vulnerable to infections at risk.

Ensuring that children attend school and complete their education is crucial to achieving our goals because lack of decent hygiene facilities discourages pupils, particularly girls, from attending school and completing their education.

This is an in-school and out-school program to help equip girls with the skills to exercise the power of their voice in any environment they find themselves.

Scholarships for girls are meant to encourage better education and career opportunities for females who are yet to match their male counterparts on different socio-economic parameters.

We partner with individuals, organisations and government to offer scholarships to girls in school and out of school who are financial constrained to pursue academic and career opportunities so as to aid them in achieving their dreams.

Acquiring skills will help generate income and increased income will build girls’ resistance against child, early, and forced marriage.

Most of our girls get bored during the holidays, some have to attend lessons by force, some roam around streets unnecessarily and often engage in an unwholesome activities; hence we try to engage them in boot camps and allow them share their thoughts, learn from other people’s experiences and learn a skill too.
